U.S. must learn to pressure China with the focused precision of a fracking operation 
Some people fear China and fit the country into a framework of a Sisyphean challenge for the United States. The U.S. is Sisyphus, the mythological Greek figure condemned to push a giant boulder up a hill for eternity, only to have it roll back down as soon as it gets to the top. China is the boulder. And the hill is the U.S. goal of convincing China to respect — indeed, support — rules of law and the institutions that apply those laws equally, without discrimination.

DCFR Chairman Presents at Commissioning Ceremony of USS Gerald R. Ford 
July 22, 2017 – A public ceremony to commission the aircraft carrier named after former President Ford was held at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The keynote presentation was delivered by DCFR Chairman, Patrick Walsh, a retired U.S. Navy four-star admiral who last served as commander of the Pacific Fleet. Before serving as the 59th Commander of the U.S. Pacific Fleet from 2009 to 2012, Walsh served as the 35th vice chief of Naval Operations and as commander of the U.S. Naval Forces Central Command and commander, U.S. 5th Fleet. He retired from the Navy with over 34 years of service.
