About the Dallas Committee on Foreign Relations

The Dallas Committee on Foreign Relations provides a forum of leaders from business, government and academia who have an active interest in foreign policy and international affairs. The Committee is a non-partisan, not-for-profit organization whose members are elected without regard to age, sex, race or political affiliation.

The Committee does not engage in public discussions, believing that the most productive discussions are conducted off the record and in private. The meeting format is simple: we seek to stress the substance of the discussion. We operate under the Chatham House rule. Members may not and do not attribute remarks to a speaker or another member. All presentations and discussions are strictly off the record.

Our meetings take place only when we have a discussant of interest, and we hold an average of 24-30 meetings each year. A typical meeting of the Committee, with a range of 30-50 members in attendance, is a luncheon followed by remarks and Q & A. On occasion, however, we will meet for either breakfast or dinner depending on our discussant's schedule. When requested, we can arrange regional news interviews as well as occasional cooperative programs with universities or other groups.

Originally associated with the Council on Foreign Relations in New York, the Dallas Committee now operates and is governed independently. We continue to enjoy a large membership overlap with the Council and regularly co-sponsor programs with the Council. The Dallas Committee is an affiliate of The American Committees on Foreign Relations in Washington, D.C., providing members with speakers, invitations to the ACFR national conference and study trips. The Dallas Committee has also enjoyed strong working relations with and programmatic support from various other nationally recognized institutions around the country.
